Acceleration is the rate at which an object’s velocity changes over time. Velocity is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude and direction. Acceleration is therefore also a vector quantity. Velocity can change in either magnitude or direction, or both. If an object’s velocity changes only in magnitude, then it is accelerating in a straight line. If an object’s velocity changes only in direction, then it is accelerating in a circle. If an object’s velocity changes in both magnitude and direction, then it is accelerating in a curved path.
Determining how to find acceleration is important because it allows us to understand how objects move through space and time. Without understanding acceleration, it would be difficult to predict the future motion of an object and how it will interact with other objects. Furthermore, acceleration is a fundamental concept in physics and is used in a wide range of applications, from engineering to astronomy.
